Paris Saint Germain have confirmed they have sold teenage winger Ruben Providence to Roma, where he will play in the Primavera side.
The highly-rated 18-year-old moves to Roma for a fee of roughly €500,000, signing a three-year contract to keep him in Italy until 2022. Providence completed his medical at Villa Stuart today, and will now link up with Alberto De Rossi's Under-19 side. Benvenuto, Ruben. Young Roma striker Zan Celar has signed for Cittadella on a season-long loan, on the same day that he agreed a new contract with the Giallorossi.
Celar will spend the next campaign with the Serie B side, who lost this year's play-off final, which should give him the chance to put himself to the test in senior football more regularly. The 20-year-old Slovenian attacker has signed a new professional deal with Roma - for whom he made his first team debut as a substitute in Claudio Ranieri's first game back in charge in March - which will last until 2023. It remains his only appearance for Roma to date, but he has been in eye-catching form for the Primavera side. After being Roma's top scorer in the U19 championship in his first season in Italy, he went one better last term, as he outscored every other player in the division with 28 goals. In bocca al lupo, Zan. Roma's appointment of Gianluca Petrachi as sporting director has moved a step closer after Primavera midfielder Jean Freddi Greco confirmed his departure to Torino.
Petrachi will be the permanent replacement for Monchi, who failed to create what was expected of him at Roma. Torino president Urbano Cairo was angered by Roma's approach for Petrachi, who still had a year left on his contract with the Granata, and reports indicated that he was demanding a player from the Giallorossi as compensation. That player will be Freddi Greco, an Italy youth international aged 18, who revealed to Gazzetta Regionale that he has signed with the Turin club. "Torino is a great team and has a great youth sector," he explained. "I'm happy with my choice and I hope to grow as a player and as a person. "I owe a lot to Roma, they were nine emotional years in which I learned a lot and it is thanks to Roma that I have reached this goal. "The future is unpredictable, I don't want to talk about it, for now I think of doing well at Torino. I have signed today and on Thursday I will have my medical at Torino." It is expected that fellow Primavera player Flavio Bucri will also move to Turin before Petrachi can be freed. Roma have confirmed that midfielder Gerson has joined Serie A rivals Fiorentina on loan.
The Brazilian will spend one season in Florence, with neither club stating whether or not an option-to-buy was included in the deal. Gerson has only managed to make 15 starts across two seasons in Rome, after being signed from Fluminense in his native Brazil. The 21-year-old has scored two goals for the club - both of which came against his new club, Fiorentina, last season. The move should allow Gerson to find more regular gametime, although he joins a squad where he will still have to fight for his place. Good luck, Gerson. Roma full back Abdullahi Nura has joined Serie B outfit Perugia on loan.
The right back has been returning from an ACL injury and should now have an opportunity to get some gametime in Italy’s second tier. Nura, 20, will now spend the next season and a half with Perugia. At the end of the loan, Perugia will have an option to buy the Nigerian, with Roma retaining a counter-option. Perugia are currently 12th in Serie B after 23 games. AS Roma have announced today that 18-year-old Primavera striker Marco Tumminello has signed a contract with the club until 2022.
It has been a successful couple of years for Roma's Primavera, winning the TIM Cup this season and the Campionato Primavera in 2015/16. Tumminello's contract is another good step for the youth setup. Tumminello had scored 41 goals in 60 Primavera appearances, including 28 in 28 this season. He made his first team debut against Chievo Verona as a substitute last season, and was featured in the first team matchday squad for Roma's game against Juventus on Sunday. Hopefully, he will go on to achieve great things with Roma's first team in the next five years. AS Roma were crowned winners of the Primavera TIM Cup with a 2-0 win over Virtus Entella in the second leg of the final last night.
Goals from striker Edoardo Soleri and defender Riccardo Marchizza sealed the victory for the young Lupi after the first leg ended 1-1 (Marchizza also scoring the Roma goal in that game). Both Soleri and Marchizza have already featured for the Roma first team - Soleri in the Champions League against BATE Borisov in 2015 and Marchizza against Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League in December 2016. This is the latest step in the progress of Roma's illustrious academy, which in recent years has churned out talent such as Alessandro Florenzi, now a seasoned first teamer who will hopefully make a full recovery from the injury troubles he has encountered this season, and players who have moved on elsewhere such as Matteo Politano, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gianluca Caprari (who will face Roma on Monday for his current side Pescara). It marks the seventh trophy of coach Alberto De Rossi's 503-game tenure as Primavera boss. Congratulations to the under 19s for their victory and hopefully we will see some of them in the first team in the near future! |
