The Latest AS Roma News
Patrik Schick has left Roma to join RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy, bringing an end to a disastrous two-year spell with the club.
Schick's agent arrived in Rome last Tuesday in an attempt to sort the striker's situation, with several German clubs having monitored him for some time - but it has taken the best part of a week to finalise his move away. In the end, it is RB Leizpig who have won the race, agreeing a deal where they can sign him for €28m at the end of the season - a fee which will rise to €29m if they qualify for the Champions League. Up front, they have paid €3.5m, plus a possible further €0.5m in bonuses, for the loan. Schick signed for Roma in a club record deal in 2017, but injuries meant the start to his time at the club was stuttered, and the form of Edin Dzeko further reduced his starting chances. His spell with Roma brought just eight goals from 58 appearances, rendering him one of the biggest flops in the club's history. The deal means Roma will have to pay an additional €20m to former club Sampdoria, as stipulated in the agreement for the transfer which initially brought him to the capital. The Czech forward will be replaced by former Fiorentina and Milan striker Nikola Kalinic, who will join on loan from Atletico Madrid, with an official announcement imminent.
