The Latest AS Roma News
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has become the latest player to join Roma’s treatment table, as a thigh injury has ruled the attacking midfielder out for three weeks.
The on-loan Arsenal star was in visible discomfort during the second half of Roma’s win over Lecce on Sunday, eventually being substituted off. Tests conducted at the Villa Stuart medical centre on Tuesday have confirmed that the Armenian has suffered a strain to the adductor in his right thigh. This means that Mkhitaryan will miss roughly three weeks - being unavailable for the games against Wolfsberger, Cagliari and Sampdoria. The news is a further blow to Roma, who learned earlier that they would be without fellow attacking midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini until December, due to a fractured metatarsal. It has since been confirmed that Pellegrini will be ruled out for around 60 days.

Francesco Totti has described Lorenzo Pellegrini as "phenomenal" and revealed his enthusiasm for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The former Roma captain may have left the club's board of directors this summer, but will always keep a close eye on his boyhood team, and he hopes that fellow Roman Pellegrini can continue his good spell of form after scoring his first international goal for Italy in the 3-1 win over Mkhitaryan's Armenia. "I have always believed in him," Totti told Sky Sport. "A phenomenal player. It is only up to him to continue at these levels." On Pellegrini's opponent that day, but new teammate at club level, Totti is confident that Mkhitaryan will make a positive impression. "He can bring quality and quantity. He has done well in the past, there were a couple of years where he played and didn't play, but I hope that at Roma he finds his home. "The people will appreciate him because he has so much technique and will to show it." Totti is not the first to reveal his excitement for Mkhitaryan, with current striker Edin Dzeko also suggesting the former Borussia Dortmund playmaker will be a hit at the Stadio Olimpico. Edin Dzeko has revealed his excitement about teaming up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as he prepares to face his new Roma teammate on international duty on Sunday.
Mkhitaryan, a loan signing from Arsenal on deadline day, has already come up against some of his new teammates during this international break, playing against Alessandro Florenzi and Lorenzo Pellegrini's Italy. Tomorrow, the Armenia captain will come up against the Bosnia-Herzegovina of Dzeko - who is looking forward to what the new addition will bring. "I am very happy about his arrival at Roma, I only hope he doesn't put his qualities on show in the match tomorrow," Dzeko laughed. "From the Premier League to Serie A is an enormous change. In England, football is faster, in Italy much more tactical. "Mkhitaryan will have no problems adapting to Serie A. As teammates, we will help him to adapt easily. I hope he helps us achieve our goals." Mkhitaryan recently revealed his goals for the season after joining the club, detailing Roma's aims to play in two cup finals by the end of the year. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that he hopes to play in two cup finals for Roma this season after sealing a season-long loan move from Arsenal.
The attacking midfielder was a late addition to Paulo Fonseca's squad, and in terms of technical ability, is probably the best new signing Gianluca Petrachi has made so far. Mkhitaryan is yet to train with his new teammates, as he is on international duty with Armenia, for whom he is the captain and all-time leading scorer. But while with the national setup - with whom he will face new teammates Alessandro Florenzi, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gianluca Mancini against Italy tonight - he has been able to speak about his new club. "It all happened on the last day of the mercato," he explained at a press conference on Wednesday. "After playing the game against Tottenham my agent called me, telling me that the next morning I should leave for Rome to undergo my medical and sign the contract. "This for me is surely a great opportunity given that at Arsenal I didn't play much. "I decided to transfer to Roma because of Fonseca. He will surely give me more space and use my qualities. I am 100% ready. Not only physically, I also feel good mentally because in football you also need a good head. "I didn't play all the matches in the Premier League for 90 minutes, but I trained very well and even did more than necessary." In a separate interview yesterday, he gave more insight into the team's targets for the season. "The team has a new coach and new players," said the 30-year-old. "It's fantastic because the team is starting to take shape and I can have my space [in it]. "The club explained to me the objectives of the season: taking the team back into the Champions League, reaching the Europa League final and winning the Coppa Italia. I hope to do well, with the help of Fonseca." With the curtains finally closed on a rollercoaster transfer market - Gianluca Petrachi's first as Roma sporting director - it's time to recap all the deals that went through.

The attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger, arrived in Rome on Monday morning to complete the transfer - which was first reported by Sky Sport Italia last night. After completing a medical, Mkhitaryan put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal, which will cost Roma an initial €3m, with bonuses potentially adding a further €0.1m to the cost. He told asroma.com:“It’s a great opportunity for me to begin a new chapter, with a great club. “I know what this club is all about and I am sure we can achieve great things together.” Mkhitaryan, who becomes the first Armenian to play for Roma, has spent the past three seasons in England - half with Manchester United and half with Arsenal - although his time in the Premier League has been far from a success. Nonetheless, this remains a huge deal for Roma to pull off, as the 30-year-old showed world class form in the past at Borussia Dortmund and is one of the biggest names brought to the club this decade.
