The Latest AS Roma News
Roma will have to wait a little longer to return from the international break due to outbreaks of severe weather.
The Giallorossi were due to travel to Genoa to play Sampdoria tomorrow evening, but the Liguria region has been warned of severe weather. The area has been placed on ‘orange alert’ by Italy’s Civil Protection department, with heavy rain and strong winds expected. Some forecast stations have even predicted thunderstorms. Coincidentally, the two clubs were also victims of bad weather in a match at the Stadio Olimpico last season. Play was suspended before the second half due to a waterlogged pitch, with Roma 2-1 down. Edin Dzeko equalised before Francesco Totti scored a last minute penalty to secure the three points for the home side, admitting it was the first time he had felt nervous before taking a spot kick. The game could be rearranged for 13th or 20th December, according to Il Tempo’s Alessandro Austini. Roma will return to action on Tuesday night, facing Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

The transfer window may be closed in Italy but clubs in Turkey are still able to add players to their squads.
Midfielder William Vainqueur completed his transfer from Roma to Turkish Süper Lig side Antalyaspor yesterday for a fee of £450,000. The 28-year-old Frenchman spent last season on loan at Marseille. He made 21 appearances for Roma in all competitions in the 2015/16 season. Also leaving Roma is defender Norbert Gyömbér who has joined Serie B outfit Bari on a season-long loan. We knew that transfer deadline day would be relatively quiet for Roma, with Monchi confirming beforehand that the club had finished adding to their squad. There was one deal confirmed on the day though, as Marco Tumminello was loaned out to Crotone.
Tumminello, 18, is a Primavera graduate at Roma who plays as a centre forward. He came on as a late substitute against Inter Milan last Saturday. He will now spend the season at Crotone to gain experience and playing time. Incidentally, it was Crotone where Alessandro Florenzi spent his year out on loan (in the 2011/12 season) before going on to become a first team regular at Roma. It is understood that Crotone do not have an option to purchase the player as part of the deal, so we can expect to see Tumminello back in Rome in the future. Hopefully, he will have a few goals to his name by then. Good luck, Marco. |
