The Latest AS Roma News
Roma have been linked with a stunning swoop for Inter Milan's star striker Mauro Icardi.
Icardi has been arguably the best centre-foward in Serie A over the past five years, racking up more than 100 goals at a rate better than a goal every two games. However, his relations with Inter became frosty when they stripped him of the captaincy in February, without prior warning. The Argentine had been linked with Manchester United as part of a swap deal with Romelu Lukaku, but the Premier League club are reportedly not interested. Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli are also said to be interested. However, according to Sky Sport's Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are now weighing up a move for the player. Edin Dzeko is closing in on a move in the opposite direction, so the Giallorossi could take advantage by bringing Icardi to the capital as a replacement. Recent reports have suggested that Inter's asking price for Icardi is €75m, so with Dzeko costing just shy of €15m, Roma would need to break their club transfer record to land Inter's number nine. Whether they have the means to do this remains to be seen, but some youth players could be involved in the deal - just like how Inter gave Roma Nicolo Zaniolo last summer as part of their bid to sign Radja Nainggolan. On the player's part, Icardi wants to stay at San Siro, but new head coach Antonio Conte may not have a place for him in his plans. And, with Financial Fair Play deadlines looming, the 26-year-old could be headed for an exit. Have a view about Roma that you want to share?
