The Latest AS Roma News
Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as Roma head coach until the end of the season.
Ranieri returns for his second spell in charge, after previously coaching the side between 2009 and 2011. The Rome-born 67-year-old replaces Eusebio Di Francesco, who was sacked on Thursday afternoon following a string of poor results. Ranieri will be tasked with leading Roma to qualification for next season's Champions League. Since leaving Roma in 2011, Ranieri has had mixed fortunes as a coach. He famously led Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015-16, and led Monaco to promotion out of Ligue 2 in 2012-13, but was recently sacked by Fulham after just 106 days in charge. A former Roma player and Roma fan, Ranieri brings with him a wealth of knowledge of and passion for the club. He told the club's website: "I'm delighted to be coming back home. When Roma call you, it's impossible to say no." His first test in his second spell as Roma coach will be the match with Empoli on Monday night. Bentornato, Claudio.
