The Latest AS Roma News
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has emerged as another candidate to take over at Roma.
The Giallorossi need to bring in a top coach to oversee their rebuilding project, with outbound Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri linked earlier today, following the rejections of Claudio Ranieri, Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri. Now, another name being linked with the role is Bielsa, who is halfway through the two-year deal that he signed with Leeds last summer. In his first season, the Argentine tactician guided the Yorkshire club to the Championship play-offs, but after they were eliminated by Derby County in the semi-finals, doubts have arisen over his future. According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are interested in bringing Bielsa back to Italy, after his doomed spell with rivals Lazio three years ago. He quit the club just two days after being appointed, claiming they had not provided him with the signings they had promised. As for his present situation at Leeds, it is far from certain that he will stay at Elland Road. Because the Whites missed out on promotion, he can now either renew his deal or walk away, as was stipulated in his contract. Leeds remain confident and hopeful that he will remain with them, and hold the power on whether or not he can actually leave, but his comments in the media have not given a definitive answer. Therefore, there could be an opening for Roma to strike a deal and finally give 'El Loco' his chance in Serie A.
