The Latest AS Roma News
Alisson Becker has officially left Roma to join Premier League side Liverpool.
The 25-year-old moves for a world record fee for a goalkeeper, with the initial fee being €62.5m. Roma could earn a further €10m through add-ons. Alisson joined Roma from Internacional in 2016, but spent the majority of his first season on the bench as understudy to Wojciech Szczesny. Last season, Alisson was given the number one shirt, and featured in all but two of the team’s games in all competitions. In total, he kept 22 clean sheets in 2017-18, making a number of memorable saves. The offer that came in for the Brazilian was one that Roma couldn’t refuse, and so Alisson bade farewell to the Eternal City after two years. He follows in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah, who made the same move from Roma to Liverpool last summer, and excelled as he won the Premier League golden boot. Sweden international goalkeeper Robin Olsen is expected to be Alisson’s replacement, with Leciester’s Kasper Schmeichel and PSG’s Alphonse Areola also suggested. Grazie, Alisson.
