Davide Santon will wear the number 18 shirt for Roma next season.
The full-back joined from Inter in the summer as part of the deal that sent Radja Nainggolan the other way, and was presented to the media yesterday. Sadiq Umar’s move from Roma to Rangers has been confirmed by the club.
The Nigerian striker joins the Scottish club on a twelve-month loan. Sadiq has also spent time at Bologna, Torino and NAC Breda on loan since arriving at Roma in 2015. He won a bronze medal with his country at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and to date has made six appearances for Roma, scoring twice. Good luck, Sadiq. Roma striker Sadiq Umar is in Scotland to complete a loan move to Rangers.
The young Nigerian forward has spent the last couple of seasons on loan away from Roma, and is set to make another temporary switch to the Glasweigan club. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard recently took over as Rangers manager, which has helped them attract a better calibre of players, and Sadiq is about to become their eighth signing of the summer. Sadiq, 21, will get the chance to play Europa League football with the Scottish club, with their campaign beginning with a 1st Qualifying Round tie on Thursday. Meanwhile, a friend of Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech has posted on Instagram that the Moroccan has signed a four-year contract with Roma. How true that is is unclear, especially with Monchi recently suggesting that no more players would arrive in midfield, but it will be enough to get some fans excited. Roma could be dealing with former sporting director Walter Sabatini for one transfer this summer. Sabatini is now in the same role at Sampdoria and the club are chasing Roma's Gregoire Defrel. With Duvan Zapata expected to leave the Ligurian club, they see Defrel as a replacement, according to La Gazetta Dello Sport. The same outlet report that Udinese want to take Leandro Castan from Roma. The defender has been fortunate enough to play again after brain surgery four years ago, but there is no place for him at Stadio Olimpico, so he is likely to move on this year. Serie A newcomers Frosinone have also been linked in recent days. Various outlets in Italy and Portugal are also suggesting Monchi's interest in Porto midfielder Hector Herrera. The defensive-minded player is entering the final year of his contract and does not intend to renew his deal, so Roma are studying the situation. New Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante has chosen the number 4 shirt ahead of the new season.
Cristante joined from Atalanta in the summer, and was unveiled at a press conference today, where his new squad number was confirmed. He takes the shirt from Radja Nainggolan, who left for Inter this summer. Cristante also wore the number 4 at Atalanta, where he made 59 appearances over a one-and-a-half year spell. At the press conference, sporting director Monchi described Cristante as "the best midfielder in the league last season." Roma have announced the signing of young goalkeeper Daniel Fuzato from Palmeiras, who becomes the club's tenth signing of the summer.
Fuzato, 21, has been bought for a fee in the region of €450,ooo, and follows fellow new goalkeeper Antonio Mirante to the club. The Brazilian keeper has been capped once by his country's under-20 side, and will link up with compatriot Alisson Becker in Roma's goalkeeping department. After signing a four-year contract, Fuzato has chosen to wear the number 63 shirt for the club. He told the club's website: “Today begins an incredible new adventure in my career. “I know Roma very well, because the club has a long tradition of great Brazilian goalkeepers. I will do everything I can to follow in their footsteps.” Sporting director Monchi confirmed his belief that Fuzato could go on to represent Roma in the future. Meanwhile, Primavera goalkeeper Andrea Romagnoli, who was named in some senior squads last season, has signed a new contract with the club until June 2020. Benvenuto, Daniel. Justin Kluivert has confirmed he will wear the number 34 shirt for Roma.
The Dutch attacker recently joined Roma from Ajax, and announced via Instagram his decision behind his new squad number. Kluivert will wear 34 as a tribute to former Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who was forced to retire from football at the age of 20 after a cardiac arrhythmia. 34 was Nouri's shirt number at Ajax. "Why 34?" Kluivert wrote. "Appie's number. My prayers and shirt number for you, my friend-brother who taught me so much." Kluivert becomes the sixth player to wear the number 34 for Roma. No player has worn it for more than two seasons yet. Roma wing-back Bruno Peres has left the club to join Sao Paulo in Brazil.
The Brazilian club confirmed the signing of the right-sided player today. Peres joins Sao Paulo on loan until December 2019, when the club will have an option to buy. The 28-year-old joined Roma from Torino two seasons ago, but failed to live up to expectations. The highlight of his Roma career was a goal-line block against Shakhtar in last season's Champions League, which helped the side advance to the next round. However, Peres was unable to find his best form in the capital, and a return to his native Brazil is in the best interest of all parties. Grazie, Bruno. Serie B side Pescara are interested in Roma's Mirko Antonucci, according to reports.
Antonucci, 19, made his senior Roma debut last season, coming off the bench to provide an assist for Edin Dzeko as Roma drew 1-1 with Sampdoria. However, he was only able to make two further appearances during the campaign, and therefore it may be time for him to gain some experience elsewhere. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Roma are set to meet with Pescara and Antonucci's agent to discuss a transfer, with several other clubs also interested. Despite the reports of a move away, Antonucci has been named in Roma's squad for the pre-season training camp at Trigoria - although obviously that is subject to change. Corriere Dello Sport previously indicated that Monchi believes Antonucci is worth €20m, but only wants to loan him away. Roma have confirmed the 31-man squad list that will undertake the pre-season training camp at Trigoria.
Pre-season begins on Monday, as Roma look ahead to the 2018-19 season. Roma's three World Cup players, Federico Fazio, Alisson Becker and Aleksandar Kolarov, have been given extra time off. Eight of the club's nine summer signings will take part in the training camp; only young midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo will not be involved. There is no place in the squad for Bruno Peres, which may indicate his departure. He has been heavily linked with a move to Sao Paolo in recent days. Daniele Verde has been included, after spending last season on loan at Verona. The right winger impressed despite the club's relegation, and with Cengiz Under the only other right-sided attacker at Roma, there is a hint that Verde could be retained for the season. Some Primavera talents have also been called up, including attacking midfielder Alessio Riccardi and goalkeeper Andrea Romagnoli. Gregoire Defrel, Maxime Gonalons and Kevin Strootman will all be involved after disappointing individual seasons. They will be hoping to prepare for the new campaign in a good way so they can get off to a better start. Finally, there are places for Rick Karsdorp and Luca Pellegrini, two full-backs who spent large periods of last season on the sidelines with injury. Both will hope to make an impact next season. Friendlies against Latina and Avellino will feature in the pre-season schedule before the squad's US tour. Full squad list: Goalkeepers: Matteo Cardinali, Stefano Greco, Antonio Mirante, Andrea Romagnoli. Defenders: William Bianda, Elio Capradossi, Juan Jesus, Rick Karsdorp, Kostas Manolas, Ivan Marcano, Luca Pellegrini, Davide Santon. Midfielders: Ante Coric, Bryan Cristante, Daniele De Rossi, Alessandro Florenzi, Maxime Gonalons, Javier Pastore, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Alessio Riccardi, Gerson, Kevin Strootman. Forwards: Mirko Antonucci, Gregoire Defrel, Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Justin Kluivert, Diego Perotti, Patrik Schick, Cengiz Under, Daniele Verde. Roma are interested in Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to reports in Spain.
Cillessen has played second fiddle to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen for most of his time at Barcelona, and wants first team football next season. According to Mundo Deportivo, Roma are considering Cillessen in case Alisson leaves this summer. Respected Roma journalist Alessandro Austini recently confirmed his prediction that Alisson will go to Chelsea in this transfer window, but he said that PSG's Alphonse Areola would be the replacement, not Cillessen. Barcelona want around €30m for the Dutch keeper. Meanwhile, Roma look to have missed out on an Ajax midfielder. Donny van de Beek is reported to have rejected a move to Italy, as he looks to continue his development in Holland. The 21-year-old wants to stay at Ajax, according to Belgian publication Algemen Dagblad. Elsewhere, Gazzetta Dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia claim that Bruno Peres is nearing a return to Brazil. The Roma right-back was thought to be heading back to Torino, but a move seems to have fallen through. Instead, Sao Paolo could take him off Roma's hands, with the club wanting around €7m for him. Finally, Juan Jesus has responded to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio claiming Porto and Zenit St Petersburg are interested in him. Via Twitter, the centre-back indicated that he knew nothing of the rumours, and he said that neither of the clubs are as strong as Roma. |
