The Latest AS Roma News
Young Roma attacker Gerson could be set to leave Roma this summer after finding opportunities limited in his two seasons at the club so far.
Sampdoria have been stated as his most recent suitor, with ex-Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini having recently taken the reins at the club. Sabatini brought Gerson to Roma in 2016, and could offer an escape route for the 21-year-old. However, Gerson's father and agent told ForzaRoma.info that a deal was not close. He said: "Goodbye to Roma? At the moment we have nor received any proposals on Roma's part for a departure of Gerson. He is here with me and our family, he is resting, he is calm and is spending his holidays in the best way, ready to show up on 5th July at Trigoria for the reunion. "If he can rejoin Sabatini at Sampdoria? Great news, I didn't know of this new assignment for Walter. It makes me pleased, he is a great person. We will wait for a communication on Roma's part ready to value the hypothesis and decide which can be the best for the club and for the player."

News emerged yesterday that Roma full-back Bruno Peres has rejected an offer from his former club Torino
Peres has been a major disappointment since joining Roma from the Turin side in 2016, failing to replicate the form that made the Giallorossi want him in the first place. The Brazilian has been linked with a summer exit, with a return to Torino suggested as a serious possibility. It's a move that would make sense for all parties, as Peres performed well there before - but reports indicate he has rejected their advances of a contract offer. Torino want to take Peres back on loan with an obligation-to-buy, but the 28-year-old is not happy with the amount of money they have put on the table. Turin-based paper Tuttosport claims that the Granata have offered him €1.5m-per-year, but Peres wants a larger sum. Peres has also been linked with a move to Inter or Benfica. Diego Perotti could be about to leave Roma after a two-and-a-half year stay.
Reports claim that the winger is ready to make a switch to Atalanta, where he would be reunited with his former Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Perotti, 29, has been an important figure for Roma during his time at the club, scoring the winning goal against his former club at the end of the 2016-17 season to secure Champions League qualification. However, his spell in the capital has been plagued by inconsistency, and with the impending arrival of Justin Kluivert on the left wing, Perotti could be made to move on. According to Corriere Dello Sport, Perotti is willing to move to Atalanta due to his good relationship with Gasperini. The winger is under contract at Roma until 2021. 30% of Roma fans said they would sell Perotti this summer in a recent poll. Roma are in advanced talks with PSG over a move for playmaker Javier Pastore.
The Argentina midfielder is deemed surplus to requirements by the French club, who have to raise funds quickly to meet Financial Fair Play demands. According to Calciomercato, Roma have agreed a fee of €18.5m for the player, who will fly to Rome tomorrow ahead of a medical. Premier League side West Ham United had also shown an interest in Pastore, but the ex-Palermo man has his heart set on a return to Italy. Besides, Roma gives him the chance to compete in the Champions League again next season. The 28-year-old could be confirmed as a Roma player by the end of this week. Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco has signed a new contract with the club, to keep him in charge until the end of the 2019/20 season.
Former Roma midfielder Di Francesco was appointed just over a year ago, taking over from Luciano Spalletti, and his first season brought an impressive 3rd place finish and Champions League semi final. So far, he has a win percentage of 56.86% at Roma, the best he has achieved at any club he has managed. The 48-year-old masterminded Roma's run in the Champions League, showing tactical aptitude to overcome Barcelona in a remarkable turnaround. During the European campaign, Di Francesco instilled a resilient mentality into the side which had not been seen under previous managers. The success he achieved in his first year in charge has now prompted the club to extend his contract by a further year. He told the club's website: “I am extremely pleased to be able to continue this adventure with Roma and our great fans. “The confidence that the president and the directors have always shown in me makes me very proud, and I hope to repay them all next season with a campaign even more exciting than our last.” Club president James Pallotta enthused about the impact Di Francesco has had in his tenure so far. “Last summer, when we appointed Eusebio, I went on record as saying that we wanted someone who could come in and get the very best out of our first team players and also help bring through some of our great young talent. “I think it’s clear that he achieved both those objectives in his first season here as coach. It’s important to have the continuity and stability that Eusebio brings to the project and the contract extension that he has signed today is testament to our belief in his abilities to take Roma forward.” Roma have confirmed that the club have set up a new women’s team for the upcoming season.
The team will compete in the women’s Serie A for the first time, being coached by former Italy player Elisabetta Bavagnoli. The setup of the new team owes to the vision of club director Mia Hamm, a legend of the women’s football game. Via the club’s official website, Hamm said: “This is great news for AS Roma and also for women’s football in Italy. Young boys in Rome have always dreamed of one day following in Francesco Totti’s footsteps and pulling on the Roma shirt and now young girls can share the same dream.” Hamm continued: "As a member of the club’s board of directors, I have been waiting for this day and no-one will be happier than me to see the new team kick off their first game in Roma colours.” Club president James Pallotta said: "We have lots of girls in our coaching system and today’s announcement means that they will be able to have more opportunities to continue their development and hopefully see a clear path through to playing football at this club.” Roma join AC Milan in setting up a women’s team for the new season, whilst Sassuolo, Fiorentina and Juventus already have teams in the Serie A Femminile; the latter won last season’s competition. The women’s team’s home fixtures will take place at Stadio Tre Fontane in Rome. Forza Lupe! Roma have been released from their Financial Fair Play agreement with UEFA, the governing body have confirmed.
The club had been placed under financial restrictions for three seasons in 2015 after failing to comply with break-even regulations - as the new ownership recovered from the financial crisis the club was under towards the end of Rosella Sensi's presidency. The subsequent FFP settlement affected Roma's transfer dealings, with the club having to sell Mohamed Salah last summer in order to meet their targets. Now, with the targets having been met in each of the three years, Roma have been released from the settlement. This gives Roma a little more freedom in the transfer market, and provides a boost to their hopes of keeping key players in future. Roma are continuing their pursuit of Domenico Berardi, according to Il Messaggero. The player is willing to move to Rome to work with Eusebio Di Francesco, but negotiations with current club Sassuolo have hit a stumbling block. Sassuolo value Berardi at €30m, whereas Roma would prefer to make a loan offer.
Another wing target, Yacine Brahimi, has poured cold water on rumours of a move to Roma. He told A Bola that he was happy to remain at Porto, and wouldn't be following in the footsteps of Ivan Marcano by moving to Rome. "I have a contract with Porto, I am part of the club," he said, going on to say he was happy with the Portuguese side's offer of a contract renewal. A move for Sunderland's Wahbi Khazri has also been denied. The agent of the Tunisian winger, who was on loan at Rennes last season, said on Centro Suono Sport: "No, I personally have not been contacted. I know Monchi well, but we never talked about Wahbi." Inter are stepping up their chase of Radja Nainggolan. With Bryan Cristante signed for Roma's midfield, the Giallorossi are reportedly willing to let the Belgian leave. Corriere Dello Sport claims Roma want up to €40m for the number 4, but the transfer would have to take place after July, for financial fair play reasons. Finally, the deal to sign Justin Kluivert has not been completed yet, says his agent Mino Raiola. Whilst the player's will to come to Italy is clear, the clubs have not yet agreed a transfer fee. Roma have confirmed the signing of Bryan Cristante from Atalanta on an initial loan deal, with an obligation to buy.
The midfielder has signed a contract until 2023, with the transfer to be made permanent for €15m plus bonuses after certain sporting targets are met - on top of the €5m fee paid up front for the loan. Cristante, an Italian international, has impressed during his 18 months with Atalanta, scoring 15 goals in 51 starts in all competitions, and becoming one of their most-used players. In an interview with the club's website, Cristante revealed it was "always my aim to come to Roma." The 23-year-old, who has also played for AC Milan, Benfica, Palermo and Pescara, said: “I am confident that I will be able to do my best and make a big contribution to this club.” He joins a midfield already bolstered by the addition of Ante Coric earlier in the transfer window. Kevin Strootman has reiterated his happiness at Roma amid links with a move away.
The Dutch midfielder has been linked with an exit - most recently to Rudi Garcia's Marseille by Gazzetta Dello Sport - but said after Holland's 1-1 draw with Italy last night that he is satisfied in Rome. Strootman also commented on the potential arrivals of Ajax duo Justin Kluivert and Hakim Ziyech. "If things get agreed to then I will welcome them," he told Voetbal Inside. Reinforcements and players with lots of qualities are welcome, and they certainly have those otherwise Roma wouldn’t be following them.” Gazzetta Dello Sport claims that a departure for goalkeeping sensation Alisson is getting closer, as Roma have reportedly sounded out Sporting's Rui Patricio or PSG's Alphonse Areola to replace him. Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid are eager to sign the Brazilian, who kept 22 clean sheets for Roma this season. Sky Italia suggest that Roma have made a late bid for Matteo Darmian. The Manchester United full back is on the verge of completing a switch to Juventus, but three clubs have made late efforts to derail the move. Along with Roma, Napoli and Valencia have made contact regarding a transfer. Roma's swoop for Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante is all-but complete, according to Calciomercato. The Italian will move to the Olimpico for a fee in the region of €30m. Calcionews24.com claims that Roma are interested in ex-Inter winger Xherdan Shaqiri. The Stoke winger wants to leave after being relegated from the Premier League. Shaqiri is available for roughly €13.5m. The same source claims that Bayer Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno is an alternative target if Alisson leaves. Coincidentally, the German club's sporting director is Roma legend Rudi Voller. Onto another winger, and late last night it was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio that Porto's Yacine Brahimi is a potential target. Porto are asking for €30m for the Algerian. |
