1965 – Aldair was born. The Brazilian defender made over 300 appearances for Roma across 13 seasons, being an integral part of the side which won the 2001 Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana. He also won the Coppa Italia in 1991, at the end of his first season with the club. He lies fifth on the club's all-time leading appearance chart, and is the only foreign player in the top 15. 2003 – Jesse Carver died aged 92. The Englishman managed Roma from 1954 to 1956. Carver was the third of four English people to manage Roma, the others being William Garbutt, Herbert Burgess and Alec Stock. Fernando Canestrelli scored. 1973 – Nils Liedholm was appointed manager of Roma for the first time. The Swedish tactician became the greatest coach in the club’s history, leading the club across four different spells. Under his guidance, Roma won their second Scudetto, reached the European Cup final and won the Coppa Italia three times. His first spell as Roma boss saw him replace Manilo Scopigno in the hotseat, guiding the club to an 8th-place finish in his first season. In the four years of his first spell, he didn't mastermind any trophy wins, but he did take Roma to the UEFA Cup for the first time ever. The goalkeeper was on Roma’s books in the 1972-73 season, but never played. 1933 – Roma lost 1-0 at Genoa. 1912 – Miguel Angel Panto was born in Argentina. The striker played for Roma more than 100 times in the 1930s and 40s. 2014 – Francesco Totti extended his record as the Champions League’s oldest ever goalscorer with a free kick in a 1-1 group stage draw with CSKA Moscow. Totti had become the oldest scorer in competition history two months earlier, by scoring against Manchester City. However, he made sure the record became even harder to beat by opening the scoring against CSKA. He was 38 years and 59 days old at the time. A forward, he played for Roma between 1970 and 1972, scoring 12 goals. 1934 – Enrique Guaita scored for a fourth consecutive game as Roma beat Ambrosiana 1-0. 1928 – Roma beat La Dominante 2-1 with a goal from Rodolfo Volk and a Fulvio Bernardini penalty. 2016 – Edin Dzeko scored a hat trick in a 4-1 Europa League group stage win over Viktoria Plzen. The other goal was given as an own goal after a remarkable Diego Perotti rabona cross/shot. It was Dzeko's first hat trick for the club, coming as his record-breaking season was beginning to gather pace. His first goal was an incredible curled left-footed effort from a tight angle. In the second half, he headed home Antonio Rudiger's cross, and tapped home with his left foot again to round off the scoring. He finished the group stages that year with an impressive five goals, having scored a brace against Austria Wien on the previous matchday. Mario Gomez had put the visitors 2-0 up in the first half, but Claudio Ranieri's side came out reinvigorated in the second period, with Borriello pulling one back less than five minutes into the half. De Rossi's goal came in the 81st minute, before Totti stepped up to take a decisive penalty three minutes after, exacting revenge on Bayern for the 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture. Fulvio Bernardini opened the scoring before Rodolfo Volk scored a brace for the second consecutive game. Volk scored seven goals that month. 1907 – Guido Masetti was born. One of the greatest goalkeepers in the club’s history, he was part of the team that won the Scudetto in 1942. Masetti joined Roma in 1930, moving from Hellas Verona. He quickly established himself as a key player, making 364 appearances in a 13-year spell. His importance to the side was recognised in 1939, when he was appointed club captain. He remains the only goalkeeper in the club's history to have held the role, and became the first player to lift the Serie A trophy as Roma captain. At international level with Italy, he won two World Cup winners medals, despite not playing a game in either the 1934 or 1938 tournaments. Masetti later had three short spells as manager of the club, in the 1940s and 50s. Only Franco Tancredi made more appearances in goal for Roma than Masetti, who died in 1993. Also:
