ON THIS DAY
1973 – Nils Liedholm was appointed manager of Roma for the first time. The Swedish tactician became the greatest coach in the club’s history, leading the club across four different spells. His first spell as Roma boss saw him replace Manilo Scopigno in the hotseat, guiding the club to an 8th-place finish in his first season. In the four years of his first spell, he didn't mastermind any trophy wins, but he did take Roma to the UEFA Cup for the first time ever.
