1904 – Arturo Chini Luduena was born in Argentina. He played for Roma between 1927 and 1934, thus being the first foreigner to play for the club. A striker, he scored 62 goals in 180 games for Roma. In his first season - in which he was the only non-Italian player - he made the joint-highest number of appearances, and also scored the most goals (14) in all competitions. In the previous season, he had played for Alba Roma, one of the clubs that merged to form AS Roma in 1927. Also:

1951 – Claudio Ranieri was born in Rome. A supporter of Roma, he later played for and managed the club. As a player, Ranieri made just six Serie A appearances for Roma after coming through the youth ranks. As a manager, he had more success, leading the club to the runners up spot in both the league and the Coppa Italia in his first season. He left his post as Roma head coach in February 2011 after four straight defeats. Since then, he has managed Inter Milan, Leicester City - who he led to a famous Premier League title in 2016 - and Nantes, among others. Also:

Umberto Renica scored in between. 1945 – Romeo Benetti was born. He played for Roma between 1979 and 1981, ending his career with the club. 1940 – Atalanta held Roma to a goalless draw. 1935 – Roma and Ambrosiana drew 0-0 in Serie A. 1935 – Fabio Cudicini was born. He kept goal for Roma over 100 times in the 1950s and 60s. 1929 – Rodolfo Volk’s opener was cancelled out in a 1-1 draw with Triestina. 1891 – Renato Sacerdoti was born in Rome. One of the founders of Roma, he was the club’s second president, serving for 13 years. 1921 – Gunnar Nordahl was born. More famous for playing for AC Milan, he also represented Roma as a player and a manager in the late 1950s. The Swedish striker made 34 Serie A appearances for Roma in his two-season spell, scoring a highly respectable 15 goals. Francesco Moriero, Massimiliano Cappioli, Abel Balbo and Francesco Totti scored. It was Totti's first ever goal in European competition, coming at the age of just 19. The goal was a great example of his ability to create space in a crowded area, completing an emphatic win. Gabriel Batistuta had put the opponents ahead, but Dmitri Alenichev equalised in the 89th minute before Francesco Totti - who was captaining the side for the first time - found a winner in stoppage time. 1993 – Abel Balbo scored in a 1-0 win over Sampdoria. 1982 – Roberto Pruzzo’s first half goal gave Roma a 1-0 win against Cesena. 1971 – Amarildo scored for a second game in a row as Roma beat Sampdoria 1-0. 1965 – Roma drew 0-0 at Juventus. 1954 - Celestino Celio scored an equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Lazio, just a minute after Roma had gone behind. 1948 – Roma drew 1-1 with Lazio, Giacomo Losi scoring an opener. 1937 – Roma beat Atalanta 2-0 with goals from Danilo Michelini and Oliviero Mascheroni. 1953 – Paulo Roberto Falcao was born. One of the most gifted players in Roma history, the Brazilian midfielder contributed to the club’s ascension in the 1980s, winning one Scudetto, two Coppe Italia and reaching the final of the 1984 European Cup. Widely considered one of the best Brazilian players in history, Falcao played for Roma over 100 times between 1980 and 1985, his only spell in Europe. He was one of the biggest factors in Roma's success in that time, earning the nickname of 'The Eighth King of Rome.' Falcao scored the winning penalty in the 1981 Coppa Italia final, at the end of his first season in Italy, meaning the club won the trophy for the fourth time and a second consecutive year. Also:

He joined Roma in 1982, ending a nine-year association with hometown club AC Milan. His first season was an immediate success as Roma won Serie A for the second time in their history. On an individual basis, it added to the 1979 league winners medal he had claimed with Milan. Aristide Coscia and Francisco Provvidente also scored. 1935 – Renato Cattaneo scored the winner as Roma beat Lazio 1-0. 1988 – After coming back from a first leg deficit, Roma took their UEFA Cup first round game against Nurnberg to extra time, as Rudi Voller and Roberto Policano secured a 2-1 win after 90 minutes. Renato scored in extra time to take Roma to the next round, where they would be drawn against Partizan.
